7 Day Trendy Diet: The Pescatarian Diet
Exploring Trendy Diets One Week At A Time
Hello everyone, for the last quarter of the year I am trying a new diet each week for 7 days to test my emotional and psychological reaction to different dieting lifestyles. I understand the average diet does not take physical effects for 3 weeks to 90 days, but as a foodie, I want to explore how different people eat food on a day to day basis.
My second mission is to test the “wellness” placebo effect. The illusion that changing their diet made a person’s emotional well-being change. Some people report that as they change their diet their focus and motivation has changed. I have yet to find that after losing weight in the past. For week one I tried the gluten-free diet.
Pescatarian Diet: A diet that restricts animal protein intake to only fish and other water dwelling creators.
What were some challenges to being Pescatarian?
Most of the time when people hear about the Pescatarian diet people want to go on diatribes about mercury levels and their hate of fish. Those were not my challenges. On a side note one friend of mine literally sent me 8 links of mercury conspiracies and that I would go into a bout of depression. None of this happened and I am completely fine( at least for now muahhaha).
My challenge, was finding access to fish in public places, which did lead to a few cheats actually more cheats than any of the diet I have tried. My grocery budget was under 50 dollars since I already had fresh fruits and veggies in my house, however it was exhausting to eat salmon, tuna, and shrimp to complement my meals. I wanted to explore other seafood, but my time and budget did not allow that. I had a team lunch at work and there was no fish in sight that I wanted to eat. The key word is wanted to eat, because most of the time I find that restaurants have fish dishes that are complimented with sauces or dressings I don’t like ( ie tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, a lot of mayo on seafood salads, etc). I did find myself visiting your local poke bowl and sushi spot three times this week, which did put a hole in my wallet.
But other than the access challenge, I did not find any
Did you cheat and just eat other meat products? How many times?
Were you able to workout?
Yes I worked out everyday this time, this was actually the first diet I got back to my regular routine of six times a week.
Why I tried it: I feel like the pescatarian diet is for cheating vegans and vegetarians. Granted this is an invalidated generalization based on my own experience. That is something that I have come across so I am curious. People who tend to feel the same guilt of eating meat
How much did this diet cost on my weekly grocery budget? This only cost me 47 dollars on my budget. I bought fish and a few seasonings to complement veggies and quinoa.
Did I cheat?
I cheated four times and all on reasonable occasions ( in my opinion)
- A Company Wide Chili contest ( gotta respect chilli)
- A bumble date ( gyoza with sushi is just love)
- During a show where no fish was available and I had not eaten in seven hours ( a man has to eat, so I snacked on a little )
- Part two after the gig, I had a beef burrito with the boys. ( there were no fish options available)
This has been the most amount of cheats I have had in this month, and this has been due to access to fish.
Would I do pescatarian again?
Fish is treated as more expensive. Mostly this is due to the fact that some fish are more seasonal or it is more costly to prepare, but you can not find fish in every restaurant an always cook it. So I would say access has been the biggest challenge, but I did not feel sick because of it. I love fish, but I couldn’t make it my full time all the time source of animal protein.
This week I am starting keto and I have already had bacon, eggs and cabbage.
